Little Movers and Shakers explores great music through:

• singing
• story-telling
• game-playing
• exploring a wide variety of instruments
• dancing and movement
• reinforcing rhythms with props and visual aids
• incorporating music concepts and theory

And does it all with lots of joy, love, fun and a large dose of silly.

Class Structure

In each class we sing, pretend and tell stories through music, play games, explore various instruments, dance, play with props, learn music concepts and theory, etc and do it all with lots of joy, love, fun and a large dose of silly.  

The class includes some focused activities, as well as less structured ones, like letting loose on the dance floor and jamming out on percussion!  

We incorporate the research and early childhood music teaching ideology of Orfe, Edwin Gordon, Dalcroze Eurythmics, Kodaly, to name a just a few. 

Our activities are informal, easy-to-join in with, are non-performance oriented, and there is no judgement of musical ability. And for those of you joining our parent and me classes, we believe that you as their caregivers are their best teacher, and the one whose lead they follow- so we ask you to let your hair down, and participate with gusto! (maybe even do a little hair dance!)

Parent and Me Mixed Age

Our classes are mixed-age from infant to 5 years old (although, when older siblings join us, they tend to have a good time!) A mixed-age environment has many benefits including, but not limited to:

• Older children get the opportunity to be leaders and teach younger ones. 
• Younger children grow leaps and bounds 
• We are recreating a true family and community model
• Children learn and grow at their own pace, not being compared to other children of the same age. 
• Children experience the same class in different ways as they change developmentally
• You get to bring the whole family!!

Independent Preschool Aged and Childcare Classes

In our independent preschool aged classes and when we are a weekly music enrichment class in a childcare center or preschool, we vary our activities each week and within each lesson plan (so that it has a nice flow, has some consistency week to week in its structure, and helps the kids to stay focused and into it!).
 

• We introduce some deeper ideas of music theory and reading music, but always in a developmentally appropriate way and in a way that feels fun to them. (Like playing pitch games with puppets, or listening games hiding the instruments, or even composing rhythm sentences through different sized cups pretending that we are chickens!). 
• Independent music classes are for ages 3- 6 years (parents wait outside the room)

• Classes at preschool or childcare centers, students will be divide into appropriate aged groups.
• For a "camp" day or session, we would basically do a typical lesson plan, but keep it a little less focused on the education piece. 

Sessions

Parent and Me class run for Fall, Winter and Spring sessions that are generally 10 weeks unless otherwise noted. 

We offer shorter Holiday and Summer Sessions which run anywhere from 3-8 weeks.

We can arrange programs to meet the needs of any school or childcare center, based on our availability.
