Class Structure
In each class we sing, pretend and tell stories through music, play games, explore various instruments, dance, play with props, learn music concepts and theory, etc and do it all with lots of joy, love, fun and a large dose of silly.
The class includes some focused activities, as well as less structured ones, like letting loose on the dance floor and jamming out on percussion!
We incorporate the research and early childhood music teaching ideology of Orfe, Edwin Gordon, Dalcroze Eurythmics, Kodaly, to name a just a few.
Our activities are informal, easy-to-join in with, are non-performance oriented, and there is no judgement of musical ability. And for those of you joining our parent and me classes, we believe that you as their caregivers are their best teacher, and the one whose lead they follow- so we ask you to let your hair down, and participate with gusto! (maybe even do a little hair dance!)
Parent and Me Mixed Age
Our classes are mixed-age from infant to 5 years old (although, when older siblings join us, they tend to have a good time!) A mixed-age environment has many benefits including, but not limited to:
Older children get the opportunity to be leaders and teach younger ones.
Younger children grow leaps and bounds
We are recreating a true family and community model
Children learn and grow at their own pace, not being compared to other children of the same age.
Children experience the same class in different ways as they change developmentally
You get to bring the whole family!!
Parent and Me Sessions
Fall, Winter and Spring sessions are generally 10 weeks unless otherwise noted.
We offer shorter Holiday and Summer Sessions which run anywhere from 3-8 weeks.
