We are passionate about music, the development of children, and care deeply about the families that we work with. We incorporate the research and early childhood music pedagogies of Orff, Edwin Gordon, Dalcroze Eurythmics, Kodaly, to name a few. The experience builds, among other things, a musical foundation for your child in a fun, playful, no-pressure environment.
Cathy Shapiro, Director, Teacher
Cathy absolutely loves teaching early childhood music. Growing up in a musical family, Cathy has enjoyed a passion for music for as long as she can remember.
Cathy has sung on many recordings, for films and documentaries, performed live with various singer-songwriters, and currently performs with the Perfomers Collective. Cathy loves that she is sharing this passion with young people and hopes that it is something that they will enjoy throughout their lives.
Cathy's other love is children. She was a preschool teacher for 4 years, and is now enjoying the best job of her life, being a mom! She has an enthusiasm and silliness that are contagious with adults and children alike!
Erin Young, Teacher
Erin has been working with children of all ages in many different settings for years, and feels like Little Movers and Shakers is a perfect fit. She has worked for the My Gym Children's Fitness Center franchise for over 13 years, currently working the past year in the Toluca Lake gym (come see her Monday and Tuesday nights). She also owns and runs a very successful children's birthday party business, Parties By Erin and Co, where she and her team bring characters and themes to life by performing and running various activities for all ages. She received her BA in Theater Arts from Cal State Long Beach with an emphasis in performance. Erin has been singing, dancing and acting for more years than she would like to admit and is currently represented by Angel City Talent. Her genuine love of children, impeccable comedic timing and sunny disposition are appreciated by both parents and kids alike. "Erin is like the pied piper of children" - Michelle Carranza, Long Beach, CA
Savanna Chute, Teacher
Savanna is a recent graduate from Cal State Northridge with her BA in theatre. She loves musical theatre, has a beautiful singing voice and is passionate about music and the magic it can create in tiny minds! Savanna is amazing with kids. She is kind, kooky and absolutely loves working with children, as well as leading groups of them. She loves dancing, singing, playing her ukulele, and can't wait to share all of it with you. She is a wonderful addition to our Little Movers and Shakers team and although she teaches mostly for our childcare center programs, she is happy to jump in wherever needed.
And she is now super excited to be teaching our Saturday classes here at COTC.
